CRC 2020 Coaches
Junior Program Coach - Alex Marchuk
It is with excitement and pleasure to announce Alex as our new Junior Program Coach. With 7 years of coaching experience, she brings dedication, spirit and commitment to all her athletes. She started her rowing career as a CRC junior, then to U of Vic to continue rowing and a Henley Gold. She shares the drive, the will and heart with her junior athletes and will be an asset to all of them in reaching their goals.
Assistant Junior Coach - Brandon Mooney
Brandon started with the Calgary Rowing Club in 2011 with the junior program and went on to row with the senior competitive team and the University of Calgary Dinos. Brandon went on to coach the Masters program the last two seasons and took the team to the World Masters Championships in Lake Valence, Hungary in September of 2019. Brandon is excited for the opportunity to give back to the junior program and help push these athletes to their future goals.
Para Coach - Jon Beaudry
Returning as our Para coach, Jon has 5 years of experience rowing and 4 years experience as our Para Coach. He is a committed coach and has helped our para rowers bring out the best on the water. He has brought our Para program and athletes to new levels as well as having CRC para athletes at out of province regattas (Cascadia).
Masters Program Coach - Wesley Ernst
Wesley Ernst is an enthusiastic new coach to the Calgary Rowing Club. He has previously rowed for Leander Boat Club in Hamilton, Ontario as well as Guelph University, competing mainly in the LM1x. With some top finishes at Henley and other competitive regattas, he will bring fresh ideas into our Masters program. Wesley's coaching experience includes masters rowers at Leander Boat Club as well as a volunteer assistant coach for Westdale Secondary School and the McMaster Marauders. His coaching philosophy is to ensure that athletes are equipped with the confidence and knowledge to continuously strive for that perfect stroke. Wesley works at the University of Calgary in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, is a minister in the New Apostolic Church and lives for morning coffees, ultimate frisbee and sunrises over water so calm it looks like glass.
Assistant Masters/ Senior Coach - Mike Simonson
Mike started rowing centuries ago at the Calgary Rowing Club, from there he moved onto the National Rowing Team representing Canada in both 2001 and 2003. Upon retiring in 2003, he started coaching at the Calgary Rowing Club first with the Rec program and moving on to coach the Senior Competitive Group from 2006 through to 2017. He is now back with the CRC coaching team as Assistant Coach in the Masters and Seniors Programs. His knowledge and experience will be an added benefit to both programs.
Rec Program Coach - McKenzie Lukacs
We welcome McKenzie as our returning Rec coach. Her love of the sport comes through in the coach boat and on the tarmac. With 10 Years of rowing experience and her third year coaching Rec at the CRC, her enthusiasm spills over into the Rec athletes as she teaches our new rowers and corrects our veteran rowers in the technique needed to run the boat.
Senior Program Coach - Pascal Ferraro
Pascal returns for his 3rd year as our Senior Coach. Pascal’s love for rowing, sport, and his athletes is transparent as he assists his athletes in reaching their next level for performance. Pascal has 36 years of rowing experience internationally and we are grateful for his commitment and knowledge to support our senior athletes.
Assistant Senior Coach - Patrick McVey
Patrick returns for his second season as Assistant Senior coach with the Calgary Rowing Club. Patrick has extensive experience as an athlete in our sport and relocated and is looking forward to continuing developing athletes in the Senior program.
Assistant Senior Coach - Trevor Bartoli
Trevor has been coaching with the Senior program for the last 2 years and has been involved with coaching LTRs previously. As a professional in the strength and conditioning field, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience coaching athletes of all ages and has particular experience developing high-performance athletes. Trevor has been developing the strength training program for the Senior team.
Dry-land Coach/ ITC - Tessa VanDerVeeken
Tessa started coaching as an ITC last year and has been supporting both the Junior and Rec/Masters programs with winter training strength and circuit sessions. As a professional in the strength and conditioning field, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience coaching athletes of all ages. Tessa is particularly skilled in helping athletes develop skills, mobility, strength no matter what age or starting point in their fitness journey.
In Training Coaches (ITCs)
We are excited to welcome the following individuals into our In-Training Coach Program. Our In-Training Coach program was established 2 years ago to develop motivated individuals from within the club into coaches and provide learning opportunities for them to grow in their experiences and skills. This 2 year program aims to develop our future CRC program and assistant coaches. Welcome:
