General Inquiries

Yes. Rowing takes place on the water, and all participants must be comfortable in the water and able to tread water for three minutes. Even with Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs), basic swimming ability is important for safety.

We recommend tighter fitting athletic clothing so nothing gets caught on the oars. Dress for movement and comfort, and don’t forget the essentials: socks, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a non-metal water bottle.

Yes. The City of Calgary requires all water users to wear a PFD. We use waistband, self-inflating PFDs. Learn to Row and summer camp participants may borrow one from the Club. Members are expected to purchase their own.

Our Learn to Row program, summer camps, and private lessons are great ways to experience rowing before becoming a member.

Yes. The CRC has a parking lot beside the building. Please do not park on the grass or along the side of the driveway, as the City of Calgary may ticket or tow. During busy times, you may need to park in one of the North Glenmore Park lots nearby.

Yes. The Calgary Rowing Club follows Safe Sport principles and is committed to providing a training environment that is safe, respectful, and free from maltreatment. We align with Rowing Canada’s Safe Sport framework and ensure that our policies, expectations, and coach training reflect these standards. Our goal is to support the physical and mental wellbeing of every participant and to create a culture where everyone feels safe and valued.

Membership registration is completed through our online system. Fees vary by membership type and season. Before joining, we encourage new rowers to complete our Learn to Row program to ensure proper skill and safety preparation.

If you have questions about the right membership for you, please reach out. Our team is happy to help guide you through the process.

Programs & Lessons

The Calgary Rowing Club offers programs for every age, experience level, and goal. Whether you are learning to row for the first time, returning to the sport, training to compete, or looking for a fun way to stay active, we have a program that meets you where you are. Learn more about our Programs.

Rowing is an outdoor sport, so please be prepared for a range of weather conditions. The CRC has safety standards for wind, storms, and air quality, and if conditions fall outside our safety thresholds, sessions may be postponed.

To complete the Learn to Row program, you must attend all scheduled sessions. We do not encourage athletes to come to practice when sick. If you miss a session due to illness, we may be able to offer a make-up option based on availability.

The Calgary Rowing Club offers private and semi-private lessons for anyone looking to improve their stroke in a personalized setting. Whether you are new to the sport, recovering from an injury, or hoping to accelerate your progress on the water, our instructors are here to help you reach your goals.

If our Learn to Row program is full, we encourage you to consider private lessons. They offer a flexible way to get started on the water while you wait for the next available program.

You may change or cancel your registration up to five business days before the class begins. A $50 administration fee will apply. No changes or refunds are available within five business days of the class start date.

Events

Volunteer registration is shared through our newsletter in the weeks leading up to the event. Ensure you sign up for our eNewsletter and keep an eye on your inbox for details.

If you are a non-CRC rower, your registrations will be completed through your associated club. If you are a CRC member, please discuss registration with your Coach.
